The chapter opens with a conversation between Hiroshi and Hiroshi's mother. Hiroshi says that his mother told him not to worry about getting anything back from Doye--he's just going to keep working hard for the anthology club. The chapter ends with Hiroshi telling his mother that he's not worried about Doye's feelings for him. He's worried about his own feelings for Doye, and he doesn't want Doye to get rejected by anyone. He says that if Doye sees him talking to Hiroshi, she'll know that Hiroshi is in love with her. He tells his mother to get Hiroshi to stop talking to Doye and to stop teasing him about his feelings for her. She tells him to go back to the cottage and look for Hiroshi. She also tells him that he should go alone, because if everyone keeps teasing him, it'll make it harder for him to work with the other members of the club. She says that she's crying because she forgot to bring more tissues with her, and she'd rather not know what's going on. She asks Hiroshi how he got to the shrine, and when he says that he didn't know what it was, she says that it was a shrine to the college girl who mentioned the match-making. She adds that she still hasn't missed a day at school, and that's why Hiroshi thinks that Doye is just a classmate. She's right, Hiroshi agrees.
