About This Chapter
"Why are you backing out now," the narrator asks miyabi, "your attitude ! . . my boogie dow . sh new york . if i joined . the club ! this huh here I thought for you" . The two exchange a series of witty asides. The first is about how he feels like he's doing drama now, but he wonders if he can just start a drama club at his high school. The second is about why she's so worked up. She says they're going to practice during the winter break, which means they'll have more time to practice. The third is about the fact that they've got to work hard because they don't have the other students to rehearse with. The fourth is about what's going on with the club. They're having a big sale on donuts, and it's hard to believe that they haven't even started rehearsals yet. The narrator says he'd like to start rehearsing today. He's not sure why she works so hard. He wonders if she is on some "slutty drug" , or if she just wants to work on something important. The next thing he knows, the two are talking about the lack of other students coming to rehearse. He asks if she has any problem with his lack of commitment to the project, but she doesn't like to work with anyone who isn't willing to commit to it. She's probably on some kind of "sramble" or "smoky" drug , the narrator says. The only thing he can think of to explain her behavior is that she fell for a guy who wasn't ready to commit. She fell in love
