The chapter opens with a knock at the door. It's Hiroshi's birthday, and he's excited to see his friends. He's been writing a novel during his winter break and won a prize for it in a literary competition. He wants to do whatever he says for the rest of the day. Hiroshi tells his friends that he'll be supporting them with both hands on the ice. He also tells them that he didn't mean to hurt his ankle when he only allowed one hand to go. He swears to the god and his mother in heaven that he doesn't want to hurt them. He tells them to be nice to his mom and not to do dumb stuff like fall in love with his mom's boobs. They're all happy to see him. They prepare a big party for him.
