About This Chapter
The next day, the principal announces that the school will be closed for the winter because of personal reasons. The teacher, who has been at the school for two years, apologizes to the students for not telling them sooner. He says that he will be taking a substitute position after the winter break. He thanks the students and wishes them well in his new career as an educator. He tells them that he hopes to be able to use the school as a learning environment for himself. He also thanks the principal for giving him the opportunity to work at his former school. He asks the students to forget about him. The principal tells the teacher that he has been on his cell phone all day. She tells him that she is on her way home. She asks the teacher to leave a message for her. She says that she hopes the teacher will continue to take care of her little sis-in-law in the school's literature club. He replies that he does not mean to condemn her for falling in love, but that he knows that she fell in love with another student when he was her teacher. He adds that he would not denounce her feelings if she decided to act on her urges. He does not want her to think that she would cross the line of love for another student.
