The chapter opens with a flashback to the previous chapter, in which Rinehart's love for Roxane is revealed. The flashback shows Roxane's reaction to Roxane and her reaction to the events of the previous day. She is angry with Roxane for not telling her that she loved Roxane, and she is upset that Roxane did not tell Roxane that she was in love with him. She also blames herself for the breakdown in their relationship.
