In this chapter, we learn that Mr. Lorry is the "biggest jerk" in the world, and that he's not the only one who's in debt. He's also the one who can't pay for his mother's health care, and he doesn't know how to pay for it. He tells Lorry that his family is only asking him to come back so they can see their relatives. He asks Lorry to be his fiance, and Lorry says that's the only way he'll be able to ask for help.
