In this chapter, we are introduced to the protagonist, a 17 year-old boy named umezu. He is a member of the school's track and field team, and he is rumored to be in love with a girl named madoka. They are both competing in an athletics fair, and the protagonist is excited to be a part of the fun. He tells us that he has a crush on madoka, but that she is disappointed that he is so immature. He says that he will show her his best side in the upcoming race, and that he and madoka will be cheering each other on. The protagonist then tells us about a freak accident that occurred on the track. A pig ran into the track and injured the protagonist. He was hit in the head with the pig's hoof, and had to go to the hospital. He feels bad for losing the chance to win madoka's love, but he is happy that the pig hit him. He also tells the protagonist that madoka is certain to win the race.
