About This Chapter
The monk asks Mishima why he didn't go with the English. Mishima says that he's already been wounded and needs to be taken care of. He asks the monk if he can spend time with him. The monk says he'd like to be a monk, but he doesn't want to be associated with people who don't like him. He wants to know if Mishima can be friends with the girl he loves, and Mishima replies that he can't because he'll never know her. He's not sure that Mishima has a chance to win the battle with the other guys. The guy on the left says that the guys on the right look nothing like Mishima and Dayama, and he needs a new plan. He says he was the one who tried to attack first, and now he needs to punish him for trying to do the same thing again. He tells Mishima that they're going to head off to thegion, but Mishima is happy to see him, and says he wants to be with him forever. He thanks the monk for coming, and asks him to forgive him and to pray for his happiness. The man says he lost the battle to protect Mishima, but now he've lost the right to exist. He begs the monk to stop and forgive him, but the monk says that's okay, and that he will become a monk forever. The narrator says that this is the first time Mishima's ever thought that he would give up, and the man says that it's because Mishima wrote a letter saying that he loved a girl, and then he realized that she was in love with Mishima
