About This Chapter
In this chapter, the narrator tries to teach a lesson to the protagonist, who is a juvenile delinquent. He tries to get the protagonist to understand that he is a violent person, but the protagonist refuses to listen. He tells the protagonist that he does not understand him either. The protagonist tries to convince the narrator that they can have a fun time together at 5:00 p.m. on the day of the fireworks display at the Muromachi train station. The narrator refuses, saying that he will not be late, and the protagonist says that he was drawing a triangle and a cicada when suddenly the cicada jumped on it. He says that the cicada was so funny that he did not realize it was there. He apologizes for being late, but he says he will be fine. He adds that he knows that the protagonist is awful, and he is sorry that he has to go to school that night. He goes on to say that the exams are coming back to get his memories back, and this is the time when he feels like he is going to school. He feels that he should have stayed away from the protagonist because he thought he was worth it, but now that he sees the protagonist jerking back, he wants to beat the protagonist down.
