The narrator wakes up in the school central atrium. He's just arrived in Japan, and he doesn't know much of the people in the city. He tells the narrator that he just came from a beautiful day, and that he's not even close to being able to sleep. He wakes up with a cat sleeping in his arms. The cat is a springtime goddess, and the narrator thinks it's super cute that she's sleeping in her arms. He asks the cat's owner if she has a boyfriend, and she says that she does, but that she hasn't had a boyfriend in a long time. The narrator wonders if he has enough close friends to wake him up the next day at school. He says that he woke up at school the day before, and it was a weird awakening. He wonders if she woke him up because she didn't have any boyfriends around. He thinks she woke up because the girls in the atrium were so loud that she needed to come along with them. The girls are having a party, and they're all having a good time. They're talking about the cat, which they think is going to get seriously hurt by a wild dog. It's the same cat that they've been talking about all this time, but the girls don't say anything about it to the owner. The girl who's been talking to the cat says that the cat is in love with her, which makes the narrator think that she can do whatever she wants with a dog. She's a first-year student. She asks the girl if she'd ever seen the cat before and the girl says yes, and then the narrator gasps. He thanks the girl for waking him up, and says he'll be back in a few days.
