About This Chapter
This short scene opens on a Thursday in May of last year. It's the second day of school, and Sarah has not come to school because she's nervous about her voice. She tells her friend, Inaba, that she loves singing in front of the other girls, and that she gets nervous on her own because she doesn't know how to do her homework. Inaba tells her that the girls behind her don't listen to her at all, and she thinks that they're listening to a song she sang by a guy named Tsukamoto, who's a friend of her dad's. Sarah says that her parents stick to enka, but she can't find anyone else to sing with, so she decides to start hanging out with the girls. She says that she'll try to befriend them, but that she can never find anyone who likes singing with the guy named Tomoyuki. In the end, she never tried to speak to them, because she didn't want to upset her parents, who stick with enka. She's back at home, and her friend chatters on about how rich the girls are listening to her, and how she'd like to be friends with them. Then she tells her story about how one of the girls came to her and brought her a song, which she sang in her part.
