In this short scene, the narrator raves about the "memory dust" that's forming on the island. The memory dust, he says, is like a "life form" that has its own will. He wonders what's going on, and wonders why anyone would want to kill a friend of theirs. The narrator says that he has no friends, and that he's so powerful that he doesn't need anyone to protect him. He says that if the war ended, they could be friends. He's right, and they could all be friends if they were fighting for the same cause, which is to win the war. He also says that they're as close to winning the war as lucia is to killing haru.
