About This Chapter
In this short scene, the young swordsman raves about the upcoming battle. He tells the lance that he's going to dance with his beast sword and stab him in the guts. He's not going to fall for the illusions of the swordsman's weapons, he says, because they're just meant to distract the opponent from the real fight at hand. He also warns the lance not to get too close to the other swordsman, because he'll get his own wounds. He says that the only thing he can do is get rid of the girl, and that's all he can really do. He grabs his sword and says, "I've got enough of you, / Worth less old man" . He thanks the lance for coming, and then he says that he knows how to beat the lance. He promises to kill all of them with the beast sword. The swordsman says that if the lance doesn't swing the sword, there's no way for the beast to swing it. The man who forged the sword tells him that the sword has no illusions. If the lance swings the sword too hard, the beast won't be able to swing back at him. If he swings too hard , the sword will look like it's been struck by a real beast. The swordman is confused, and he asks, "What the heck is going on?" .
