About This Chapter
The crew prepares to leave for the moon, and one of the men asks if he's going to be a "bride" or a "vampire" . The man replies that he'll be "going to remember you" if he sees the moon again. He's also going to "remember" his wife, who's wearing a blue veil. This is the first time the man has been asked to do something like this, and it's a big deal. It's like a marriage proposal, he says, but with a twist: he can choose which one he wants to marry. He says he'd be happy to do so, even if it means going to a place that's not really his home. He doesn't know if he can really go, though, because he thinks that if they lose one of their "mandatory fours" , it will be a big loss. But, he adds, "nobody thought that . . anyone thought that." He says that the director recommended him for the position, which means that he can talk to the moon's mysterious rock professor . He also says that if the crew needs to ask him about any rocks they find, they can always ask him. The only problem, says the man, is that the hatch will have to be lowered so that the regolith won't get stuck in it. The men discuss the training they're going to do to prepare for the trip, and they wonder if they'll ever be able to make a movie about it. They're getting ready to leave, and the man says, "mutta" is outside the hatch, waiting for him.
