About This Chapter
In this short scene, we get a brief glimpse of what it's like to be a member of the crew of the International Space Station. We learn that the men are in the middle of a training exercise, and that they're trying to get the astronauts to do something they've never done before. They're also trying to see if the astronauts can do something that they haven't done before, which is to swim in a pool of water without a splash. The astronauts are supposed to do this in order to get a sense of how fast they can swim, and if they can do it without getting caught in the water. This is the first time we've seen the astronauts do this, so we're curious to see how they do it. We also learn that this is the second time the astronauts have tried this exercise, after they swam in the Pacific Ocean in the wake of the Apollo 11 launch. The first time they tried it, they didn't make it. The second time, though, they did make it, and the astronauts were able to swim through the water without being caught. This time, however, the astronauts don't have to do it, because the water is so deep that they can barely get their helmets out of the water, and they can't see any of the other astronauts. They can see that the astronauts' helmets are soaked, so they have to help the astronauts out of their helmets. They also see that some of the astronauts aren't wearing helmets at all, so the astronauts are trying to figure out how to get back into their own helmets without getting soaked. We're not sure if this is a good idea, but we'll have to wait until the next time we see the astronauts try this exercise.
