About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that there's going to be a big crowd at the park to watch the launch of the capsule. The narrator says that he's been watching the launch with friends, family, and even some of his own schoolmates. He says that they're all there to cheer on the local hero, who's about to go into space. He also says that the crowd will be able to watch from a little park down the road, where they'll have a nice view of the launch. He's also going to whisper to the girl in the park, "La la la la" , which means "cheer up." The narrator then says that she's seen the girl riding her bike into papillon, and that she looks like a "strange girl" . He adds that no one is buying her clothes at the merchandizing stand, so it's not a big deal. He then says he'll take some of the croquettes from the stall, which are really good. He tells the girl that he doesn't make a lot of money, but he likes them. The girl says she'd like to go to space someday, even if she were an old man. She says that her dad would have put a sign up that said "1 seller," but didn't, so she feels like she has a good time.
