About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that the buggy has been shot out of the sky, and the only way to get back to Earth is to use a battery. The battery will give them enough time to get to the moon, and they'll be able to use it to bring back Alan. Alan's worried that he's going to cry, but he reassures him by saying that they're going to be okay. Alan asks if they can put some alien plants on the tree, but his dad says it looks cool, so they shouldn't worry. Alan tells him that his uncle, Brian, told him that he died in an accident on the way back from the moon. Brian's dad says that's not true, and that if he ever goes back, he doesn't have to worry about it. Alan says that the battery is big enough to carry them back to earth, but it won't do them any good if they have to use an unmanned probe to find them. Alan reminds him of the first rule, which says that you should "prioritize your own life" . He tells Alan to leave him alone, and he tells him to wrap him in an insulation sheet in the buggy so that he can stay warm in the extreme cold. Alan is worried that the ice on the moon will freeze him to death, so he asks if his parents are still alive. They're waiting for an update from the nasa, but they don't know yet.
