About This Chapter
The narrator begins by asking the audience to remove their underwear. He wants to know if there are any women in the audience who are going through the same thing he is going through. The narrator asks the audience if they are aware of the "split ends" in the hair of the man who won the first race. He tells the audience that the man won the race because he had a "drunken thud" on his head that caused him to lose all of his strength. He then tells his audience that he was able to run for eight minutes because of his "pulmonary strength" . The audience is shocked to see a girl run for 15 minutes and 31 seconds, and the narrator says that it is "pretty nice" that a girl could run for such a long time. He also says that the men at the race are the same age as him, and that they have the advantage of being older. He says that he will start thinking about the fact that he has an advantage because he thinks that everyone thinks of him as the man with "the biggest disadvantage." He then goes on to say that the next race will be a lung test. The man who wins the test will have the fastest time.
