Now that the fire is out, Nishi-Kiri asks to see how the human body burns. He's pretty sure it's not going to kill him, but he still wants to know what's going on. He wonders why there's so much smoke and why the cooling packs aren't working. He also wonders if they're really going to die. He can't figure out how to get the ropes off of the fire, and he's got a friend named Miina to help him. Miina's name is chan, so she's super smart. She's a girl, and she doesn't want to get caught in the fire. She wants to go check out the fire and see if there are any signs of danger. She tells the group to stay put and wait for the smoke to clear so they can get out. She also tells them to run away in different directions so they don't catch up to them in the forest. She swears to come back and rescue her. The group runs away, and Miina tells her that she'll never see her face again. She says the fire caused a "piece of wood" to fly into her face, and now she has to live with it. She wonders who the doctor on the island is. She hears that he needs to look after a sick patient. She knows the doctor is there, but she'd never know who he is if she didn't know him.
