The chapter opens with a description of the dark room in which everyone is trapped. The narrator tells us that it is scary to be alone in a dark room. He tells everyone to take off their school clothes and to grab their school jackets. He also tells them that he will be right there to help them if they need him. The chapter ends with the narrator telling us that the elevator car has finally made it to the top of the stairs. He says that the cables have snapped and the elevator has crashed. He asks if there is a way to unlock the door on the other side of the room.
