The next morning, the ten men prepare to leave for the "Pyramids" . The narrator asks the boys if they're sure they'll be able to keep their wits about them. They're all good at their jobs, and the narrator is impressed with how smart they all are. But he's not sure they can keep up with the rest of the group. He's worried that the doctor will use his power to take over the whole place. The boys agree that they can't keep up, but the narrator doesn't want them to think that they've lost their minds. He wants them to remember that the pyramids were built by the Egyptians, not by the Greeks. He also wants to know why the pyramid is shaped the way it is . Um, yeah, it's because there's no way to get to the bottom of the pyramid without going through a stairway. So the pyramids aren't really pyramids at all, but they are shaped in a way that makes them look like they are. So, the pyramids weren't actually built by Egyptian pharaohs, but by the Egyptian people who built them. The only thing that's missing is a stairway to the top. The pyramids are shaped like pyramids, the narrator says, because the Egyptians wanted to build a stairway through which they could get to their top. But the stairway wasn't a stairway, it was just a passageway. So it'd be useless to search through the pyramid. The guys agree that the only person they'd like to hire to
