In this chapter, we learn that Hiroshi and his companions are planning to build a permanent settlement on the island of Kyushu, which they believe to be the last bastion of civilization in the Pacific Ocean. As they search for the remains of an ancient civilization, they come upon a large stone, which is believed to have once belonged to the Olmec people, who lived in the area 3,000 years ago.
