The narrator says that the prophecy is true, but that it does not apply to anyone in the group. The group does not intend to go anywhere with the girl, he says, because she is a student at an all-girls school. He tells the girl that he does not believe that she has a premonition. He says that he has read in a magazine that the girl has a blood stain on her dress. The girl says that there is no one in their group whose name begins with the word "w" and that she believes in the prophecy of the shrine of the goddess ftima, which predicts that the first two world wars and the third world war will take place. He also says that his mother has fallen in with a religious group and that he will apologize to her. They decide to make camp for the night.
