The monk asks the emperor why he is trying to punish the monarch sect. The emperor cannot just say that he ordered the sect to do so. The monarch sect is his pawn, and the royal family can do anything to it. If the sect doesn't turn against the emperor, the emperor can take it down. But if the sect does turn against him, then the emperor will let it off the hook. Either way, the monk asks, it will be a "death's choice" . The monk tells the emperor that he has come to confess his crimes. He says that the sect has always been on a straight and narrow path, but that the three spectral valley families have defied the king's order and invaded the city of fenglin. The king is here to seize his power, he says. He asks the monk if he means to say that it is the king who is wrong. He replies that the king should be a righteous ruler.
