The scene opens with Hirokazu's announcement that he's going to make a man of his underclass friend, who has come to tell him that he needs to get into college. He's also going to beat him in a sparring match that day. The two men get into a verbal sparring match, and Hiroki asks if he can spar with him first, since they're going to have to warm up before they go toe-to-toe. Hiroki says he'll do it, but first he wants to know if the other man is serious about beating him. He says he could beat him before, but now that he has the strength to do so, he can beat him at his own game. He asks Hiroki to go out with him, but Hiroki refuses, saying that he doesn't see himself winning anytime soon.
