At the beginning of this chapter, we are introduced to a young foreign exchange student named patricia, who has just arrived in the United States. We are told that he is a very good student and that he has been accepted into the prestigious Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts. He has been sent to live in the dormitory of the university's law school, where he will be attending law school for the rest of his life. He is a good student, but he is also very shy and does not speak English very well. When we meet him, he tells us that he does not know what to do with his life because he is afraid of being labeled a "foreign exchange student" by the law school. He does not want to be labeled a foreigner because he feels that he belongs there. He also feels that his presence in the university will make it easier for him to get a job in the U.S.
