This chapter opens with a description of a corpse that has been gnawed by a crow. The crow's mouth is full of blood, and the smell of the corpse makes the crow suspect that it is the ghost of the qiu qiu. He asks the three children to follow him, but they do not tell him that he will be tracked. He wonders how the crow managed to get to the house. He tells them that he is just a curious passerby who accidentally smelled the blood of the dead crow. He wants to know what the corpse is, but he does not know what to do with himself. He says that he has seen the symbol of the magical tool before, and he realizes that he must have seen it before. He suggests that they go into battle with the crow and kill him. If they are unable to do so, he can break through the one-inch house and escape. He then tells them to speak up if they want to help him. He curses them for their arrogance, saying that if they don't think of themselves often, they will die of arrogance one day.
