About This Chapter
This chapter's epigraph is from the opening lines of the novel, "The Descent of Our Lord." In other words, this chapter is about the inevitability of our lord's descent. It's also about the importance of people knowing about it. The more people know, the more likely it is that our lord will descend. This is why it's so important that Pan has to hand over his body to the Nine Realms sect. The nine realms sect doesn't have the same level of power as the ten realms, so they can't do the job as easily as they can. They're just like role models for bosses. Pan is insulted by his son's insults, and he tells him to calm down. He's ugly, he says, but he'll send him to hell first, because he's not a "honeytongued" man. He also says that eating human flesh relieves stress, and that's why the tomb is so important to him. He says that even though the place is ancient, there's no trace of human life there. The ten realms don't seem to have much in common with the nine realms, because they're small groups of people who have more authority than the nine. The only thing they have in common is that they all use magic to recreate the same scene at the same time.
