The scene is set in the village of Dedlock, where the "voice of the dragon" is heard. The "voice" is a female voice, and it is believed that she dedicated herself to saving the village from the flooding of the nearby lake. The village is saved, and Desdemonas praises his heroism. He tells the audience that he has fought hundreds of men over the years, and no one has ever thanked him for it. He says that he feels like he is on top of everything, and that he can hear everything he says. He asks the audience to remember that he is a frail, slight body, and he is waiting for his body to grow into a full-grown adult. If the audience does not remember what he is saying, he will lose to the dragon.
