About This Chapter
En route to the underworld, the gang stops at a roadside rest area. En route, they stop at the underground lair of the Iron Maiden, a torture device invented in the 19th century. The narrator explains that the iron maiden was a device used to torture children, but that it was not used until the early 20th century, when it was discovered that the world was in the middle of the 21st century. Enroute to the lair, he sees the wind gear that was stolen from the previous night's adventure, and he is amazed at how much the wind has changed since then. He asks the narrator if he learned the trick from someone else, and the narrator replies that he learned it from an old man who taught him how to use the wheels of the wind. He tells the narrator that he should be able to do the trick, too, because he is a "chan" , or a person who is able to control the wind, too. He says that he will kick the boys' ass if they mention either of the old men, and that they are too young to learn the tricks from someone who has taught them how to do them. He adds that he is not even an official keeper of the sky, because no one starts off with the title of "keeper" .
