About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that the autumn tournament will consist of 24 blocks and that the two best blocks advance to the "main stage" of the tournament. In other words, the top two schools from each block will advance to play in the main tournament. The narrator tells us that the tournament will be played in the home team's home field, and that Miyuki's "one lucky be tough" team will have to play "called games" in order to advance. Miyuki, however, will have a tough time doing so since he's from a different block than the other schools in the block. He tells the narrator that he wants Miyuki to do batting practice and fielding practice so that he can "touch the ball again" . He also tells Miyuki that he'll need to work on his "relay throws" and "base covering and bunting" , since Miyuki hasn't "accepted the asituation" at all . This is the first time Miyuki has been asked to play outfield since the fall tour, and Miyuki is shocked that he was asked to join the team so quickly. He says that he never thought he'd let Miyuki join a team practicing so quickly, and he also says that it's a shame that he didn't think Miyuki would get a chance to play on the varsity team.
