The next morning, Hiroki starts to practice his new pitch, the vertical slider, which he's learned from playing with a wooden bat. He's still not sure how to use it, but he thinks he'll be able to do it eventually. Hiroki's not worried about the first pitch, though, because he knows that it's going to be a long one. The ball is still headed for the center field wall, and Hiroki is still the batter.
