In this chapter, we're introduced to a new character, a young man named Hiroyuki. He's a member of the U.S. Army, and he's stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Hiroyuki's got a reputation for being a good pitcher, but he doesn't seem to have much of a track record in the big leagues. In fact, he hasn't won a game in over a year, and his last start was a loss to Inajitsu. The young man asks Hiroyuki if he thinks that Hiroyuki is tired, and the answer is yes. He also asks if Hiroyuki has a chance to win the game today. The answer is no, and Hiroyuki says that he'd rather lose today than win tomorrow. In other words, Hiroyuki isn't going to win today, even if he does have a good chance to do so tomorrow.
