The narrator says that he's going on summer vacation, so he wants to watch the team's practices. He doesn't know all the names of the players, but he'd love to hear what they're doing. He's bummed that Hiroshi switched from being a pitcher to being a fielder. He says he'll be making the team as soon as he can, anyway. The narrator tells us that he and Hiroshi are already "baptized" into high school, so it's not like this is the first time they've been exposed to the world of baseball. The only fixed fielder on the team is Hiroshi, who plays left field when Hiroshi's at first base. Hiroshi is a good player, but his team isn't good enough yet.
