They need to get their bats going, pronto, and that's what they've got to do: they need to hit the ball to the opposite side of the field. That's the only way they can do it, says the opposing coach, who's been watching the game from the other dugout. The other coach, however, isn't so sure. He's worried that the opposing batter is a "cleanup batter" , meaning he's going to try to hit a ball that doesn't get caught in the air. The coach is worried that this batter is going to "swing until the ball is almost on top" of him , which will send the ball flying to the other side. The two of them are ready to switch positions.
