About This Chapter
In this chapter, the narrator delivers a soliloquy about the state of affairs in the diamond chapter of the novel. He begins by saying that the sun is up and the game is over. He then goes on to say that inashiro's pitchers relay team has won their first game of the season. He says that he cannot believe that he has been traded out of the team again. He tells the narrator to go line up and watch the practice match between Inajitsu and Chiba. He also tells him to watch Seido's team practice. Seido has struck out nine players in five innings. The narrator says that Seido is throwing at full power and that he is not thinking about pacing himself. In the eighth inning, Seido hits the mound and strikes out Tory. He thinks that Tory is too easy on him, but the narrator tells him that it was the bat that was the cause of the trouble. He is jealous of the first time to play in a game. The next day, in the double header, inajitsu wins the first game with a shutout. They also have a huge lead in the batting order with 14 hits.
