About This Chapter
The next morning, the coach is complaining about the heat. He's worried that his grandson will be unable to play in the tournament because of a leg injury. The coach tells his son-in-law that he's going to use his special pitches to keep the heat off of his grandson. He tells his kid to take a break between pitches, even if someone complains about it, because that's the only way to keep a pitcher fresh. The next day, carlos gets a hit and is sent to second on a bunt. Carlos's batter is going to try to pitch, too, so the coach tells him to eat soba and don't worry, he'll be fine. The kid is psyched to be in the batter's box, but he can't get the heck out of the way of the batter. He yells at the kid to get off the mound and strike him out, and the kid yells back at him for not being able to get him out.
