This chapter's epigraph comes from a conversation between tanba and shirakawa. . Tanba says that he's a better pitcher than he thinks he is, and that he needs to believe in himself a little more. He's out on a fly ball, and the other team's batter, carlos, is on third base with a foul fly ball. It had good power, and tanba calls it a "nice one" . He thinks that carlos is trying to attack the outside of the strike zone, but that's not going to happen. He decides to direct his pitches at the batter, and he gets him to strike out on the third pitch. The other team has two outs, and yoshizawa is on the batter's side. They've got a clean slate, and they need to take care of business.
