In the middle of the third inning, Hiromi Tachi, the third-year pitcher for the Kiryu team, throws a wild pitch that nearly leads to a double play, but the play is called off because of a foul ball. The other Kiryu players, including Miyuki and Yosuke, congratulate each other on the play. Miyuki, however, is upset that he has not been given the chance to play because of the foul ball, but he is also upset that Hiromi is throwing wild pitches at him. Yosuke thinks that Miyuki is running away from the play, and Miyuki thinks that the pitch is too hard for him to handle.
