"Ace of the Diamond Roll" opens with a soliloquy about the three years he and Miyuki have spent together as a team. Miyuki asks what's wrong with his friend, Chris. He says he's worried about whether his foot is on base or whether he'll be a ninth-baseman. He's also worried about his own pitching, which is something Miyuki hasn't done in three years. He tells Miyuki that they've worked so hard for three years and now that Miyuki's gone, they're going to have to do it all over again. He asks Miyuki if he ever asked him to do this, and he says no. He also says that he threw too much, which Miyuki thinks is a sign that he needs another year of training before he can compete with Miyuki for the starting job on the team.
