About This Chapter
The first pitch of the second inning is a fastball, and the murmur of approval is heard from the dugout. The murmur tells the pitcher to go to the mound. He's going to throw a fastball right at him, and he's not going to be able to hide it. He says he'll need the other players in the outfield to protect him from the pitch. He doesn't know if the pitch is a bluff, or if it's just a bad pitch. The other players agree that the pitch isn't a good one, and they're glad to be in the middle of the action. They're also glad to see that the third baseman has made a nice catch, and that the first baseman has been able to keep the ball out of the glove. They all agree that this is a good sign for the future. They also agree that they need to get on base, because the first two years of the team are getting loud. They can't wait to get back to the dugout and get some runs on the board.
