In this chapter, the demon explains that he is here to prove to the boy that he can kill him. He explains that the boy is afraid of failure, of losing his lover, of his parents being killed. The boy is terrified of the same mistakes he made in the past, and he is afraid that he cannot kill the demon now. The demon tells him that he will always be a weakling, and that in this life he too will be killed by the demon. He tells the boy to hang on to the barrier of fear that he has encountered, and as long as he does so, all his suffering will end
