In this short scene, we learn that the main character, Li-chen, is in the middle of gathering "two heavens level" information about his brother's death when he encounters the core disciple, Shu-ming, who has not yet shown up for the challenge. The two argue about whether or not the other should challenge the other, and Shu points out that the other is the center of attention because he is rumored to have killed his brother in the forest. He also says that he wants to exploit the other so that he can raise his status in the martial house. Shu-jing is shocked at the idea that his brother would have killed such a low-level disciple, and he asks if the two have a problem with the cold-scale claws. He says that using them at their level is suicidal, and that the two should appreciate his efforts as a disciple of the ling-xiao martial house
