This chapter opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter, in which we learn that the ghost of the little girl, who was killed by the monster, has returned to the mainland and is now living happily ever after with her cousin, the little sister of the monster. The little sister, who is also the mother of the young man, has come to live with the monster because she is afraid that the monster will kill her. The young man is also afraid that he will be eaten alive by the spirit of the dead woman, and so he begs the ghost to kill him. The ghost agrees, and the two of them go to eat.
