This chapter opens with a description of the forty spirit stones and the five spirit stones that the young master gives to Miss Yu-yan. The young master says that he wants to use the spirit stones as a condition of his cooperation with the hundred treasure pavilion. He also wants to develop the resources of the mountain's wild spirit herbs, which are poisonous and difficult to enter. He has a complete map of safe routes in the mountain, and he fears that even the great martial houses in the city will know of this. Miss Yu yan thinks that this is a big deal, but she doesn't seem to understand the reasoning behind the gift. She thinks that the gift is for no good reason, and she thinks that it is because of her family's wealth that they can't deal with the mountains' spirit herbs.
