The next morning, the doctor tells Yonada that he thinks Yonada has a cold. Yonada says he'll go to Asadahina's shrine the next day, and Yonada promises to visit her. He also says that Yonada forgave him today, so Yonada is free to do whatever he wants with Asahina. He's not sure what Yonada should say to her the next time he sees her, but Yonada doesn't want Yonada to marry her, because she's too good-looking for Yonada's tastes. He says Yonada will ruin her future, too, since Yonada trained so hard and went abroad to study, and she has a far better future than Yonada, but he can't let Yonada marry her because he's selfish and selfishly wants her to ruin his own future. So Yonada invites Yonada over to his house for some roast beef and a drink, and he says he hopes Yonada feels the same way about him as he does about Yonada
