About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he's not done eating yet. He's going to take a walk with Suzuka to check out the fireflies. The narrator says he'll get eaten by fireflies if he keeps standing out there. Suzuka is waiting for him, and the narrator tells him to hurry up and see the fireflies, because once they're there, it'll be so beautiful that it's no longer so desolate. He says he had a feeling the fireflies would happen anyway, and that's why he stayed up all night just to see them. He tells us he invited a girl he loved out to the park one night, thinking it would be a perfect place for him to tell her he loved her, and then the rain started pouring down, and he figured out what the hell was going on. The girl just walked away, he tells us. He asks the narrator how he was supposed to tell the girl he loves before all this happened, and when the narrator doesn't answer, the narrator asks him to put on his "love confession show" and tell the story of how he fell in love with the girl before everything went down. When the narrator gets up to leave, he asks him if he can go out with him on the walk, but the narrator won't let him go, saying he'd rather go alone. He then tells the narrator to look at all the fireflies in the park, which he says are "sophistically ticated" .
