The narrator introduces himself as Souichimiyamoto, a member of the Aoba High School track team. He tells the other members of the team that their training may be difficult, but he wants them to give it their best. He asks the other runners to keep an eye out for slacking off. He also tells them that asahina is going abroad to study, so he needs them at the meet this year. Asahina has been training with some of the top athletes from the previous year's meet, and she's been pushing herself even harder than usual. The other runners are impressed by her efforts, but they don't say anything to her. The narrator asks if they can stop by a park on their way home, and they agree.
