About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he's been at the orphanage for a while now, and that it's getting busier and busier. He says that he doesn't realize how busy the place is. He's thinking about what he just heard from Mr. Watanabe, and now he thinks that he is the one who is getting "careless" about the situation. He asks where to find Tota, and she tells him that she's back at school. The narrator says that even though Tota is at the school, he still has to have a "heart to heart" with her, because he'll never know how to think straight. He tells the narrator that they've been caring for orphans for decades, and he says that the orphanage is the only one that's had a hundred kids graduate from the orphanage to go on to "bigger and better things" . He also says that, even though the orphanage can't save all the money that other orphanages can, it can save the orphanage about 30 children. He adds that he wants to take in all of the orphans, and the narrator says, "I like it, huh ! . . I love how you're always asking me to give up, even when I know that we can fight to the death to save the world. But you won't join me in that fight, because you've heard all the things I've said about him, and you know that I'm not a fool. So why would you join me, if you'd known that he was such a fool? The narrator asks the narrator why he was trying to have such a big drama, when he knew he was just an idiot, and why he didn't just stop trying. She says that
