The chapter opens with Hiroshi's reaction to the news that he has returned to the world of the immortals. He wonders if he is really back in the real world, or if he has been "stripped of it" . He realizes that the world he lived in before he was immortal is not the same as the one he now lives in, and he wonders how he came to be back in it. Hiroshi tells his father that he still has a chance to get back to his real world. He tells his parents that he is not done talking with them, and they are fine. He asks his father if he will keep his promise to stay in the world, and his father says that he will. He says that if he stays, he will be able to live out his life and die as a normal mortal. He wants to be the main character of the story, but he has to finish what he started.
